Want to Know What Sells On Ebay? Go Straight to The Source.

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Alot of people are asking themselves ‘what can I sell on ebay?’ they is no specific group of products ALOT of things sell well on ebay, they waste alot of time going around in circles when its not that hard to work out what is currently selling on ebay.

And the best place to find out what sells on ebay is ebay itself.

It’s completely free to research any category you like, you simply select the completed listings option in your chosen category and it will bring up a history of sold items and their sale price.

You get information on the auction format, when the auction ended, the duration of the auction, the amount of bids placed on the item, its all there and its all current and it doesn’t cost a thing.

To get started, search for a product category you have an interest in and take a look at the completed listings for those items, its an excellent reference for determining what products are currently selling on ebay and the average price that they are selling for.

Knowing which products are the most popular and the prices you need to compete with is the key to knowing what you can profitably sell on ebay.

Some sellers produce the products they sell for example an apiarist may sell beeswax, and some may resell second hand items, but power sellers need to source the products they sell from wholesale suppliers.

The goal is to find the product at a competitive wholesale price so you can then sell it yourself on ebay and make a profit.

So when you know how to find what products sell on ebay at a profit, how do you buy them at prices you can make a profit on?

You would want to search for wholesale suppliers and get price comparisons for your chosen product(s).

You can compare individual wholesalers and their product range and pricing using google, its hard work, your literally researching individual wholesaler websites then having to locate the product you want within the site, and you have to try and research as many as you can so you can get a good price comparison.

There are also services you can use that have created searchable databases of products offered by wholesalers who they themselves have tested for quality.

This is what I use to find wholesale stock for my ebay store.

What Sells on Ebay and How Do I Get It?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

About year ago I was introduced to ebay by my cousin who suggested I sell a few of my unwanted items and make some money on ebay, once I’d gotten over the learning curve and actually sold some things and made money I was hooked.

I sold everything I had that I no longer used or wanted, then I started attending garage sales and markets where I picked up second hand items to resell on ebay, while I made some profits doing this the items were one off’s and I personally found it difficult to generate a steady stream of income this way.

I knew I wanted an ebay business and that I needed a supplier to buy stock from. I went hunting online searching for what sells on ebay’ what was the holy grail?  I quickly encountered the more common wholesale suppliers and found out that their prices were actually alot higher then ebay buy it now prices, not to be discouraged I dug a little deeper and found dozens of wholesale suppliers through google and found that basically if you buy in massive amounts then yes you might get a good deal, but if you are just buying small quantities then the margins are really not there.

The best deals seemed to be mainly for large quantities and proffessional buyers.  I found the overseas suppliers had very good prices but I didn’t know which ones I could  trust and how to effectively approach them, any advice I could glean on the subject was all very broad and generic.

One name that kept popping up over and over on the internet was SaleHoo a directory of ebay product suppliers, I wasn’t interested at first, I thought it was another hyped up wholesaler list. I didn’t sign up for a long time, but it kept cropping up and I wasn’t progressing with my quest for suppliers on my own so I  read some reviews, most of them were positive, I joined the site, and it is what it says it is a directory of pre-qualified ebay wholesale suppliers.

It’s not exactly the holy grail but it is a place to find bargains and a place to connect with buyers offering genuinly good deals. Having said that there are still suppliers on the site who are too expensive and do not have competitve pricing but these are easily weeded out through the regulary updated reviews on the individual supplier page, which brings me to another point there are I think over 60000 current SaleHoo members and they are helping to keep the suppliers competitive.

The community provides invaluable information through the forums, no question ever goes unaswered. There are education resources provided for ebay and wholesaling newbies, the site is excellent value for money and the best place to start sourcing some stock to sell for your  ebay venture. You can visit them here.

Also I just want to add that they cater to international buyers, being from Australia I felt disadvantaged thinking that my profits would be absorbed by shipping costs , but that wasn’t the case, my suppliers are from the U.S. and I get great shipping discounts becasue they want my business, for anyone who needs to start small and build up and gain experience SaleHoo will help you.
